SWAROVSKI PARTNERS WITH THE SCHOOL OF THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO TO CREATE A WINDOW INSTALLTION IN HONOR OF FASHION 2013
Swarovski hosted a window unveiling and cocktail reception at its Michigan Avenue flagship boutique to celebrate the inspirational display created to kick-off Fashion 2013, on Monday, April 15. The flagship window features a collaborative work created 13 students, including Yufan Gao, Xue Jiang, Youngeun Kwun, Joseph Leamanczyk, Jieru Li, Hao Liu, Sisi Liu, Melvin Marckwardt, Fei Nie, Carmine Ro, Fu Hsueh Tsao, Lindsey Whittle and Man Yuan, from the Master of Design: Fashion, Body and Garment program within the Department of Fashion Design at SAIC. In honor of Swarovski’s “Passport to Sparkle” campaign, which runs through December 31, the students are designing several colorful and intricate windmills adorned with jewelry pieces from Swarovski’s Spring/Summer 2013 “Tropical Paradise” collection, as well as complimenting crystals, to signify traveling and personal journeys. Chicagoans can catch a glimpse of the beautiful window display Monday, April 15 through Friday, May 3.

THE WALK 2013 begins with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3, in the Millennium Park Chase Promenade followed by the runway show at 6:30 p.m. Preceding the evening’s runway show, co-chairs, SAIC Board of Government member Stephanie Sick and SAIC Fashion Committee member Roopa P. Weber, will honor Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte with this year’s Legend of Fashion Award, and Melissa Sage Fadim with the Heart of Fashion Award for her 25-year commitment to SAIC’s Fashion Department, along with announcing individual student awards and scholarships. The event concludes with an elegant post-show dinner on the rooftop terrace of Millennium Park’s Harris Theater.
